Like his wife Victoria Beckham, David Beckham too is making a foray into fashion. Beckham is all set to launch his new bodywear brand. The 36-year-old football star, who has previously been the face Armani, is said to be busy working with a design team for the clothing line.
Beckham got the idea for starting his own label after seeing the huge success of his own four-season long collaboration with Armani. Emporio Armani made a gross turnover in 2007 of 16 million euros (approx Rs. 102 crore) and after the campaign in 2008 it went up to 31 million euros (approx Rs. 199 crore) in 2008.
Beckham’s bodywear line will be launched in collaboration with Simon Fuller, the creator of American Idol. Already Alasdhair Willis, husband of fashion designer Stella McCartney, has designed a new logo for the brand in Replica Pro font, with a circular hole punched out of the script, a reminder of the soccer ball.
Also, after the success of his two scents, Beckham will launch his newest scent, Homme by David Beckham, this September.
Beckham quoted saying to WWD that though it’s not his natural inclination to see himself as a brand, he’s just a person who has been fortunate to explore other interests and passions outside of the game he loves. He feels he will always be associated with football, but he is now working across other areas that will continue long after his career has finished.
