Co-operative Insurance appoints new CEO

Co-operative Insurance Company, one of the largest insurance networks in Sri Lanka, appointed Damitha Narangoda as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) recently. Narangoda was a former Director General at Sri Lanka Tea Board which is the regulator of the tea industry and also former Director Supervision at the Insurance Board of Sri Lanka, which is the regulator of the insurance industry. He counts over 20 years of experience in the fields of regulatory affairs of insurance supervision, financial risk management, asset management, mutual fund administration and financial services consultancy in the government and private sector. During his career, he was a member of the Inter Regulatory Council of Central Bank of Sri Lanka representing the insurance regulator. In addition to that he served as a member of the Solvency and Actuarial Issues Sub Committee at International Association of Insurance Supervisors at Basel Switzerland, which worked on setting and implementing standards and guidance papers on insurance supervision aimed to facilitate and promote cross-border convergence. He has a Business Administration Degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and Masters Degree of Accountancy and Finance from the University of Aberdeen and is also a Fellow Management Accountant.
