BASF, the world’s leading chemical company, and Finco, the Sri Lanka market leader in the supply of chemicals to the local construction industry, are cooperating to promote sustainability in the local construction industry.
In response to the growing demand for buildings that conserve energy, BASF is providing innovations that help reduce energy consumption of buildings and are effective in both roof and wall insulation. These include a total insulation concept for the building envelope, Basotect, a thermoset resin foam used for sound absorption, and pervious concrete, which enables storm water harvesting and ground water recharge. Finco will work with the local construction industry to introduce these innovations to builders, architects, developers, and other industry participants.
BASF Lanka Managing Director I.S Ragavan said, “We aim to raise awareness and augment the use of construction solutions for energy efficient buildings. By organising educational seminars and workshops with partners like Finco, we can help promote the development of a sustainble local construction industry.”
The total insulation concept offers thermal and water insulation by combining the advantages of a range of BASF products and technologies. Insulation solutions like Peripor board, Elastopor board and Elastospray are used for roof insulation, and Neopor oard for wall insulation to achieve better energy efficiency. With these solutions, total energy consumption can be reduced by up to 35 per cent.
BASF and Finco held a customer seminar this month in Colombo to showcase an array of innovative and sustainable construction solutions. Attended by more than 40 representatives from the construction industry, including senior structural engineers, architects and academics, the seminar highlighted the need to create green buildings with higher ratings. At the forum, Mark Volmer, Senior Vice President for Asia Pacific, BASF Construction Chemicals presented along with Rohan Delgoda, Managing Director, Finco. Supporting BASF in its unique industry initative of promoting green building solutions, Finco Managing Director Rohan Delgoda said, “We are happy to support BASF in its strong commitment to the infrastructural development of Sri Lanka as well as promoting sustainability. The corporate sector has embarked on its journey of using green building solutions, especially in the hospitality sector, reflecting the potential for future growth of the concept.
