ARTRA spotlight: Art stories taking form on weekly videos every Sunday

ARTRA Magazine, Sri Lanka’s art magazine, has been an imminent platform for artistic expression in Sri Lanka for nearly three years. With the release of 16 publications on a bi-monthly basis, it is successfully highlighting the landscapes of visual art, performance art, design and literature in Sri Lanka in an insightful and compact manner. In the effort to expand its reach and provide a digital platform for those in the field of arts, ARTRA Spotlight, a five-eight minute interview series was introduced a month ago on ARTRA’s website www.artra.lk and social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to inform and educate viewers about different forms of art and the personalities behind it. Each ARTRA Spotlight video takes a different style in presentation to facilitate the personality of the individual interviewed and the essence behind their fascinating work every Sunday. Thus far, ARTRA Spotlight has featured the story of Sheranga Perera, a jazz musician who is a member of the Recording Academy, the organisers of the Grammy Awards, who has accomplished many millstones as a vocalist, producer and a composer in the international music industry. Also, the Chairperson of Grant McCann Erickson, Neela Marikkar and her creative team were interviewed to highlight the role of art in the advertising industry. Tarja De Silva, the only Asian Dancer who was featured in the British Movie, ‘Cuban Fury’ shares the way in which she incorporates performance art in Zumba along with author/comedian Ashok Ferrey, who enlightened viewer about the craft of writing humour. ARTRA Spotlight is all about educating the viewers on different forms of art in a captivating manner that would keep the audience interested and intrigued about the art scene in Sri Lanka. Through the launch of ARTRA Spotlight, ARTRA Magazine aims to reach an audience of a wider spectrum to the magazine in order to multiply the platforms of ARTRA to facilitate the growth of Sri Lankan artists, writers, dancers, photographers and designers.
