Access Engineering receives contracts worth Rs. 2.4 b

Access Engineering Limited (AEL) signed a contract worth Rs. 2.4 billion with China Railway No. 5 Engineering Group Co. Ltd. (CR5) of China to rehabilitate three major roads in the Jaffna District.

The rehabilitation of Jaffna-Palali, Jaffna-Kankasanthurai and the Puththur-Meesalai roads were subcontracted to AEL by CR5, who serves as the main contractor and the rehabilitation works is implemented under the supervision of the Road Development Authority.

Access Engineering has embarked on yet another construction venture in the Northern Province that will help boost the country’s continuous infrastructure development for a better and brighter tomorrow. The project follows the successful completion of the Sangupiddy Bridge at a cost of Rs. 800 million connecting the Northern peninsula to the rest of the country.

The contract was signed by the Chief Operating Officer of Access Engineering Rohana Fernando and Business Manager of CR5 Wu Yiwu.

Fernando said: “The rehabilitation of these roads will help the civilians in the area to commute to all parts of the peninsula with ease and reap the benefits of peace and prosperity. The roads will be re-laid with asphalt concrete and upon completion, these three roads linking the Jaffna Peninsula will not only boost the local economy in the region but will further improve the living conditions for thousands of residents in this area.”

The rehabilitation of these roads is currently underway and scheduled to be completed by end 2012.
