Four Sri Lankan tea companies – Damro, Halpe, Samly and Ceylon Fresh Tea – jointly with the Ceylon Tea Board and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Poland participated at the World Food International Food and Drinks Exhibition 2019, held at the Warsaw Convention Centre from 6-9 March.
Warsaw World Food Exhibition is one of the largest food trade fairs held annually in Poland. This year’s fair featured around 300 exhibiting companies presenting a wide range of products – from alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to frozen food, canned goods, fresh products, sweets and pastries, food additives, food supplements, organic products and baby food.
Discussions on topics such as IT, transport and logistics as well as food processing equipment and cold chain management were also part of the event. In addition to the presentation of goods, the trade fair mainly served as a platform to conduct business with numerous specialist buyers operating in the Eastern European market and to acquire knowledge or exchange experiences in conferences and workshops with influential industry experts.
In order to enable exhibitors to meet buyers, distributors and retail representatives of their choice, or to provide high-level buyers with amenities during their stay and advantages in choosing their appropriate dialogue partners, there was a possibility to participate in the business matchmaking of the VIP Buyer programme.
The Sri Lankan Embassy in Warsaw encourages more participation from Sri Lankan companies at the fair in the future. The next World Food Poland will take place in March 2020 in Warsaw.
Damro Tea Ltd. won the Gold medal for the ‘Best Beverage’ in the Drinks sector at the fair.
The Sri Lanka pavilion was ceremonially opened by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Poland C.A.H.M. Wijeratne. The traditional oil lamp was lit by the Ambassador and the representatives of the visiting Sri Lankan companies.
