Enable the Disabled, the CSR arm of The Management Club staged a brilliant musical show ‘Dirijaya Prathibha 2017’ at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre on 21 October. Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils Faiszer Musthapha graced this unique musical extravaganza as the chief guest.
Popular artists in the local music and drama scene performed alongside persons with disabilities who are talented but still not known or recognised.
Dushyanth Weeraman (Brand Ambassador of Enable the Disabled), Bhathiya and Santhush, Mariazelle Goonetilleke, Rukshan Perera, Lahiru Perera, Stephanie Siriwardhana, Kingsouth, Sunill Perera performed along with children and adults from School for the Deaf, School for the Blind, ACT4, Diri Daru Piyasa, children from Lyceum School, Chitra Lane School for the Special Child, BDFI/Wheelchair Dance sport Association, Children’s World Preschool – Wattala.
The main objective of the event was to utilise the proceeds of the event towards funding the project ‘Play for All’ initiated by ETD where existing children’s parks will gradually be upgraded to include equipment that would also cater to children with disabilities.
This is the first such initiative in Sri Lanka and would be one platform where children are taught from their very young days that persons with disabilities need and should be integrated in to mainstream society and not be treated differently – resulting in an inclusive society.
