Why should politicians have privileged access to roads?

It is a very common sight to see ministers and other politicians whiz past on the road with their retinue of security personnel. In fact, the security personnel bully their way through traffic to allow the ministers to get from point A to point B without any hassle. Is this right? The general public starts off earlier than required so that they can get from one point to another without delay. They factor in traffic delays. The politicians must do the same. After all, they are there to serve the general public, not the other way around. The functions they attend are no more important than the functions that others attend. It is fervently hoped that the President will look in to this matter and advise politicians that they are no different from the general public and should act in the same way. They should have no special privileges on the road or elsewhere. Watchman
