Open letter to the President: Hoo’s fooling Hoo!

Politics and violence are established bedfellows and this keeps all intelligent, educated, respectable and honest people out of politics. There is no shortage of such people in this country. The weakness in the system is directly proportional to the violence in the system. You cannot create good governance with bad people. Eliminate the violence from the system to attract the right calibre of people into politics. When there is a preponderance of honest politicians it makes it difficult for others to steal. If there is no opportunity to steal it will eliminate those who enter politics to steal. You sir, are in an unenviable position of knowing who among those around you is dishonest. That should be a comfortable two-thirds majority. Reducing the number of ministers to 30, while being commendable, also raises the question: How do you find 30 who are honest and honourable? That sir may well be the answer to all the problems the country suffers from. T. E., Kotte
