It was only very recently that the PM Mahinda Rajapaksa wanted to ban cattle slaughter, which I fully endorsed. But his son, Minister Namal Rajapaksa, was one of the invitees at the opening ceremony of South Asia’s meat processing factory at the Katunayake Investment Promotion Zone.
It was mentioned in the news item that the owner of this meat processing factory is a local businessman who has made an investment of Rs. 1.5 billion. It was reported that the factory is established aiming to meet the 10% of international market requirement for meat-related products. Has the PM rescinded his proposal to ban slaughter of cattle in Sri Lanka? Otherwise, we are practicing double standards and becoming the worst hypocrites.
