The residents of Nugegoda and Kohuwala who come under Dehiwala/Mt. Lavinia Municipal Council and in particular MOH of Dehiwala and specifically the GS Division of Kohuwala owe a humble debt of gratitude to those manning all the relevant desks associated with vaccinating against C-19.
The respective residents under different and appropriate age groups experienced a well-planned and coordinated ‘Operation Jab’! It was just two days ago when the Grama Niladhari Kohuwala H.M.A. Ajith ensured that tokens were very conveniently delivered to each household after ascertaining age, ID, postal address, etc.
We were told three to four lanes were clustered and appropriate times allocated to each of these clusters to call at Jayasinghe Hall, Dehiwala, on Sunday 28 February.
Folk from St. Joseph’s Rd., Jambugasmulla Rd., and residents in between along High Level Rd Nugegoda: slotted for 1 p.m.
As personally witnessed the queue was orderly and did move towards the vaccine centre after relevant documentation carried out expeditiously. In fact whole operation lasted a mere one-and-a-half hours including the mandatory 20 minute observation stay.
I must also record the crispy clear announcements over the public address system that aired the dos and don’ts for us after getting jab – they were to the point and brilliant!
The Colombo MC and its medical authorities along with law enforcement agencies should take a page from DMMC and its respective MOH and GS divisions such as Kohuwala on how to plan, effectively operationalise using simple common sense tools and techniques instead of creating human stampedes, and roasting citizens under an unforgiving tropical sun for hours on end!
Thank you so much DMMC, MOH Dehiwala and Grama Niladhari Kohuwala!
