The Prime Minister, in his response to MP Marrikar’s query the other day in Parliament regarding the burial of COVID-infected dead bodies, said that burial will be permitted. But SLPP MP Kokila Gunawardene, giving a twist to the PM’s statement, said that what the PM said was that burial is permitted and not the burial of the COVID-infected, further compounding the confusion.
Now the ball is in the court of the PM to say what he really meant. If he meant burial of the COVID-infected, then he should get the Gazette notice published immediately; and if not, he should tender an apology, which is what we expect from a true Statesman.
Over to PM Mahinda Rajapaksa for him to speak up and not to remain silent on this contentious issue as the Muslim community wants to know the actual situation regarding the burial issue.
