Government Minister and National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa claims the US Government is working towards pushing for a change in the Government in Sri Lanka.
Weerawansa said that it is clear the US will submit a resolution against Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council in March this year.
He said that if the resolution is passed then the US Government will attempt to use that to impose sanctions on Sri Lanka.
“The chances of the resolution being passed is high since they have a bigger influence on other countries,” he said.
Weerawansa said that the US will then push for an international war crimes probe in Sri Lanka and draw negative publicity towards the country.
The Minister was of the view that the US will later target a Presidential or General election in Sri Lanka and look at overthrowing the current Government.
He said that by the end of 2014 it will be clear what agenda the US Government has on Sri Lanka and their attempt to push for a new Government that falls in line with their thinking. (Colombo Gazette)
