MP Wimal Weerawansa makes a passionate speech at the Nugegoda rally     By Jayashika Padmasiri Former Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) member and the National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader Wimal Weerawansa on Wednesday criticised his former comrade and present JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake by accusing him of selling the party to help Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe come to power. He made this allegation during the pro-Mahinda Rajapaksa rally held in Nugegoda in support of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Thursday. Addressing the gathering, he said: “Anura Kumara Dissanayake sold the red shirt to bring Ranil into power. He has forgotten what happened at Batalanda to his brothers. That is why he helped this Government to come to power. So the present Government is not a true government or a government of a common candidate, but a government which has come to power by force through treachery.” Speaking further, he added that the establishment of a federal government was impending in the nation under the present rule and that the unitary state of the country was at threat. “Within a short period of 30 days, people have lost faith in this Government. So how will things be after the next 40 days?” he questioned. The Nugegoda rally was organised to promote former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) prime ministerial candidate at the next general elections and to bring him back to power.
