Following the legal provisions in the Buddhist Temporalities Act, the Government has recently helped the Aluthgama Kande Vihara to manage its overflowing tills, the Minister of Justice and Buddhasasana Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe told Parliament yesterday.
“We received a request from the Chief Incumbent of the Aluthgama Kande Viharaya to intervene in opening the overflowing tills and to count the donations. The money was deposited in the temple accounts. Unless there is a request the Government will not get involved in such issues,” added Minister Rajapakshe.
As per the provisions of the Buddhist Temporalities Act, the Public Trustee maintains the accounts of certain temples including the Temple of Tooth Relic, Kataragama Devalaya, Seenigama Devalaya, Adam’s Peak Temple and Kande Viharaya. (AH)
