Northern Province Chief Minister C .V. Wigneswaran said he was saddened over the comments made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on the concerns raised by Tamils over the probe on the war.
had said that Wigneswaran was instigating communal disharmony through the Northern Provincial Council resolution adopted recently.
Wigneswaran responded by saying that speaking the truth cannot be seen as racism and so he was saddened by the comments made by the Prime Minister.
The Northern Province Chief Minister said that the resolution passed by the Council recently calls for the truth to be exposed in order to ensure reconciliation.
He noted that even the South African ‘Truth and Reconciliation Process’ looks to ensure the truth being revealed for healing to take place.
Wigneswaran said that he brought forward the resolution at the Northern Provincial Council after it was learned from the US that the Government was pushing for the report on Sri Lanka, which is to be submitted to the UN Human Rights Council next month, to be deferred.
He also reminded the Prime Minister that the Tamils in the north voted him back to power and so he should not forget that. (Colombo Gazette)
