Wigi backs K. Sripavan as the CJ

Northern Province Chief Minister and former Supreme Court Judge C .V. Wigneswaran welcomed the appointment of Justice K. Sripavan as the new Chief Justice of Sri Lanka.

Wigneswaran said that Sripavan deserved to be appointed as the Chief Justice adding that his appointment will go well for the legal system in Sri Lanka. “He is a good man and we can expect some good through his appointment,” Wigneswaran said. However he noted that a change cannot be expected overnight in Sri Lanka’s Judiciary with Sripavan’s appointment and so it will take time. Wigneswaran also noted that in some instances the Chief Justice will need the backing of Parliament to implement some changes and so it is best to adopt a “wait and see” approach. (Colombo Gazette)
