Leading construction equipment supplier UTE launched the newest addition to its portfolio, Towmotor Forklift trucks at a special seminar on 20 March at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel in Colombo.
The Towmotor, is manufactured in the same factory that Cat Lift trucks are produced, and Towmotor is a machine which can be used for uncomplicated applications.
“Towmotor is the ideal workhorse. It is a machine that is built tough for an honest day’s work. Not only is this machine reliable, it is also high value for money. Towmotor is the original inventor of the fork lift truck, now backed by Caterpillar as a no-frills machine that gets the job done,” said UTE GM – Material Handling Equipment Manjula Vithanage.
The Towmotor forklift trucks include gasoline and diesel models, with payload capacities of 2 to 3 tons, with ex-stock availability of the popular 2.5 ton variant.
“At UTE we believe that after sales service is as important as selling the forklift. Our biggest strength lies in our superior product support services. Our service division is equipped with a separate material handling equipment service section with dedicated mobile service facilities. Our parts department keeps parts available in our branch network covering key geographical locations in the country,” said GM Marketing and Administration Nalin Manorathne.
The original Towmotor forklift was a pioneering product, being developed by Lester M. Sears of Towmotor Corporation of USA in 1933. The forklift developed was able to do the work of thirty men, saving hours of time and manpower. In fact, Towmotor was so popular that all forklifts at the time were referred to as Towmotors.
The Towmotor Corporation was taken over by Caterpillar in 1965; the combined expertise of both companies has brought the brand back to its American heritage whilst resulting in exceptionally well-built models.
Though UTE has introduced the Towmotor, they continue to market CAT lift trucks targeted at more specialised applications and for customers who want a high-end, more feature rich machine.
UTE is also the authorised dealer for Caterpillar forklifts in Sri Lanka and the product range includes the widest range of models which come in diesel, petrol and gas and electric variants.
The Towmotor launch seminar was widely attended, particularly by UTE’s loyal customers, in recognition of the company’s position as a pioneer in the construction sector.
UTE’s current portfolio includes leading brands of material handling equipment, including CAT forklift trucks, JLG Aerial work platforms, BT/Raymond warehouse trucks, Dexion racking and shelving, Enerpac hydraulic equipment and DID industrial chains. As the newest addition, Towmotor is expected to be much in demand thanks to its combination of Japanese quality, reliability and value for money.
