Sri Lanka-USA Parliamentary Friendship Association (SL-USAPFA) held a proactive meeting with representatives of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) with a view to strengthening and building capacity of the Members of Parliament, consequent to the formation of the friendship association.
The meeting was chaired by the Sri Lanka-USA Parliamentary Friendship Association President, Ruwan Wijewardena.
Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala, requested USAID to look into the possibility of conducting certificate, diploma and eventually degree courses for MPs in association with a recognized university focusing on areas relevant to their political work and aspirations to serve the people of their localities. Director, Office of Governance and Vulnerable Populations, Pui Man Wong and Lead Specialist, USAID Parliamentary Project, Thusitha Pilapitiya were present on the occasion.
