The main opposition United National Party (UNP) yesterday said the party will implement the reforms it approved before 12 April deadline.
At the party convention held on 12 December, 2010, the UNP approved party reforms to implement with a deadline of 120 days. The deadline ends on 12 April.
The new party Constitution states that office bearers to key posts in the party should be appointed within 120 days of the party convention.
UNP Spokesperson and parliamentarian Gayantha Karunatileka told a press conference yesterday that following the conclusion of the local government elections this week, the party would once again focus on implementing the party reforms.
According to Karunatileka, the reforms will definitely be adopted before 12 April as approved at the party convention.
After the conclusion of the local government elections on 17 March, the pro-reforms group is expected to once again work to bring a change to the party leadership before the deadline.
