The main opposition United National Party (UNP) says that it will file a petition against the result of the election for the Kolonnawa Urban Council.
The UNP says that imposing curfew and creation of a terror psychosis by the ruling party manipulating public property affected the final result.
Police had to impose curfew in Kolonnawa as two groups of ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) supporters clashed on Saturday (8), killing three people.
Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, a senior official of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was killed by MP Duminda Silva’s security staff. Two bodyguards of Premachandra were also killed. Silva was also severely injured and hospitalised.
According to the Police the clash took place at around 3:30 p.m. Voting closed at 4 p.m.
