The main Opposition United National Party (UNP) has called a meeting of Opposition political parties, trade unions and civil organisations aiming to mobilise people against the cost of living.
The discussion will be held on 30 October to decide the actions to be taken unless relief is granted from the Budget that is to be tabled on 8 November.
The UNP is calling on the people to mobilise against the Government from January 2013 unless the Government increases salaries and provides other relief.
A number of organisations including left parties and major trade unions are expected to join this discussion, UNP sources say.
The party has also decided to invite former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka to join this discussion, party sources say.
