UNP MP Palitha Thevarapperuma yesterday chained himself to a truck and continued his protest at Baduraliya, demanding that a state hospital in the area be reopened.
A group of Thevarapperuma’s supporters also joined him during the protest which began five days ago with a hunger strike.
Several UNP members visited Thevarapperuma and urged him to stop his protest but he refused to do so.
The Baduraliya hospital was closed following a strike by doctors over an incident which had allegedly taken place at the hospital.
The closure of the hospital has inconvenienced several patients in the area and Thevarapperuma says he will not move until the hospital reopens and normal operations resume.
The police had said yesterday they will be compelled to use minimum force to end the protest by the UNP MP and this led to the MP today chaining himself to the truck. (Colombo Gazette)
