By Ashwin Hemmathagama – Our Lobby Correspondent In a bid to restore party unity after establishment of a new leadership structure within the main opposition, the UNP Leadership Council yesterday decided to drop all investigations against MPs Palitha Range Bandara and Asoka Abeysinghe and reinstated them as electoral organisers. The new Council chaired by Karu Jayasuriya made the decision during a meeting held yesterday. The Leadership Council decided to restore Bandara and Abeysinghe to their organiser positions for the Kurunegala and Puttlam Districts respectively and removed their suspensions from the party. Strict conditions have been imposed on their reinstatement. The two MPs had disciplinary inquiries pending against them after they flouted a party order and participated in a rally organised by the United Bhikku Front in October last year. Both MPs will be meeting LC Chairman Jayasuriya at Sirikotha today to discuss matters further with regard to the withdrawal of charges against them and their reinstatement as organisers, Abeysinghe told Daily FT.
