Main opposition United National Party (UNP) says the country’s economy is heading towards a great collapse and is to commence protests against the newly passed controversial legislation on expropriation.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a press conference that the country’s economic downfall has commenced with legislation on the revival of underperforming and underutilized assets. He said that wrong economic legislation has resulted in the economic downfall in many other countries. He observed that the party would commence protesting against the piece of legislation after party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe returns to the country from overseas.
Attanayake also charged that people have lost confidence in the budget presented by the government since 2005.
According to him, the government has continuously failed to implement the budget proposals to provide relief to the people.
