UNASL delegation visits China

Prof. Lakshman Marasinghe handing over a token of appreciation to Chinese Foreign Minister Li Baodong By Ruzaik Farook At the invitation of the United Nations Association of China (UNA of China), a delegation led by the President of the United Nations Association of Sri Lanka (UNASL), Prof. Lakshman Marasinghe, visited three provinces in China recently. Assistant Secretary-General Dharmadasa Vitharana, Assistant Secretary-General M.M.M. Rushanudeen and two members of the National Executive Committee, E. Karunaratne and Sampath Priyankara, were the other members of the delegation. The main purpose of the UNA of China in extending this invitation was to disseminate information about the UN, promote the comprehension and popularisation of UN endeavors and activities, help realise the purposes of the UN Charter and enhance mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation among people of all nations. This invitation was a gesture which highlighted the unity, strong emotional connection and goodwill shared with UNA of China. The delegation received a very warm welcome and enjoyed excellent hospitality in the three provinces they visited. The arrangements were of a very of high standard in every place they visited. The delegation was welcomed by Ambassador Lu Shumin the President and Liu Zhixian the Vice President and Director General of UNA of China in Beijing. Thereafter the delegation had bilateral talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Li Baodong, the President of UNA of China, the Vice President and Director General of UNA China and other senior officials of UNA China in Beijing.
