The British Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Hugo Swire has said that he met with several Non-Governmental Organisations and held discussions on the follow-up to the UNHRC resolution on Sri Lanka adopted last month in Geneva. “Had useful meeting with NGOs today on follow-up to #UNHRC resolution passed on human rights abuses in #SriLanka,” Swire said in a Twitter message. The UNHRC adopted the resolution HRC25 ‘Promoting reconciliation, accountability and human rights in Sri Lanka’ co-sponsored by the UK during the 25th session of UNHRC in Geneva in March. The resolution requests the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to undertake a comprehensive independent investigation into alleged serious violations and abuses of human rights and related crimes by both parties in Sri Lanka, during the period covered by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).
