Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development ceremonially inaugurated the rehabilitation and upgrading of Kantale Water Treatment Plant and greater Trincomalee integrated water supply project.

The new water supply scheme has been planned to resolve the drinking water problem of the people in the Trincomalee District. Funds worth Rs. 4587 million will be provided for this project by the French Government and Government of Sri Lanka, and around 330,000 people in the Trincomalee District will benefit from this water supply scheme. Chirstine Robichon, the Ambassador for France in Sri Lanka and Maldives, Minister of Water Supply & Drainage Dinesh Gunawardana, Governor of the Eastern Province Mohan Wijewickrama, Member of Parliament and Tamil National Alliance Parliamentary Group Leader R. Sampanthan, Deputy Minister K.D.S. Gunawardena, and Deputy Minister Susantha Punchinilame participated at this occasion.
