A delegation from Thailand that included Ven. Phra Dharmakosajarn Thero and a minister of the Thailand Prime Minister’s Office Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisan called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday.
The visit is a part of series of events organised by the Royal Thai Embassy in Sri Lanka to mark the 260th anniversary of the establishment of the Siam Maha Nikaya in Sri Lanka. Both President and Thai representatives gifted each other two Buddha statues to mark the strong Buddhist affiliations that the two countries and the people share.
The Ambassador of Thailand in Colombo Poldej Worachat, Minister of Health Maithreepala Sirisena and the Secretary of External Affairs Karunathillake Amunugama were also present at the occasion.
