Kilinochchi: Hardline members of Sri Lanka’s main Tamil party, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Thursday commenced a protest march from Kilinochchi denuding the UN Human Rights Council to conduct an international investigation into the alleged war crimes took place during the war.
Several TNA politicians commenced the five-day protest march from Kilinochchi this morning. The march will proceed from Kilinochchi to Jaffna.
TNA MP S. Sritharan and Provincial Councillors M.K. Shivajilingam and Anandi Sashitharan also participated in the protest march. Provincial Councillor M.K. Shivajilingam told media that they expect to finish the march at Elephant Pass for the day.
The march is aimed at raising awareness for the call on the UNHRC to establish an international justice mechanism for the alleged war crimes committed during the armed conflict and not a domestic mechanism,
Following the declaration by the United States last month that it will support a domestic mechanism to investigate the alleged war crimes, the Northern Provincial Council controlled by the TNA unanimously called for an international probe.
