President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed officials to take stern action against those who fill paddy lands illegally. The President directed the Police to look into such incidents and to mediate.
He gave these instructions while attending the Kurunegala District Special Development Meeting held on Monday. The progress of the development projects that have been implemented so far and the future development plans were thoroughly discussed at the meeting.
Speaking at the occasion, President Rajapaksa pointed out that basic infrastructure facilities should be provided to the people to build their lives. The Government has already given priority to empower the self income activities of the rural community.
He pointed out that bank officials should be more sensitive towards entrepreneurs’ requests in this regard. The President also said that more money will be allocated from the next budget to find a permanent solution for the human-elephant conflict.
Construction of the Deduru Oya reservoir was another topic that was taken up. The Government will not turn back on its planned development activities despite criticism. President Rajapaksa pointed out that the general public are reaping the benefits of those development projects.
Prior to the meeting the President visited the Governor’s office of North Western Province, where he paid homage to the bo tree at the premises.
