Sri Lankan parliamentary delegation meets with Palestine Minister of Health

Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, President of the Sri Lanka-Palestine Parliamentary Friendship Association and Minister of Health met with Dr. Jawad Awwad Minister of Health of Palestine. They prospected of joint cooperation in the fields of medicine. The delegation included members of the Sri Lankan Parliament, Bimal Rathnayake, Seyed Ali Zahir Moulana, K. Kader Masthan, S. Sivamohan, and the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Palestine M. Fawzan Anver. 

Dr. Awwad welcomed the delegation where he gave them a detailed explanation of the health situation and what developments had occurred on the primary healthcare sector and hospital level, in addition to the efforts of the Ministry of Health and its ongoing work to settle medical services in Palestine.

Dr. Awwad also briefed on the needs that the ministry is seeking to be provided through the support of the people of Sri Lanka, especially the training of medical staff and qualify and take advantage of Sri Lanka’s expertise in short term training courses in nursing care.

Minister Dr. Senaratne expressed Sri Lanka’s readiness to provide support and assistance in the training topics and bilateral agreements between the two sides and work to enhance mutual cooperation.

The Sri Lankan delegation also visited Dar-Al-Shifa’ Medicine Factory which is the first medicine factory in Palestine that is exporting medicine to many countries including European countries. A presentation about the factory and its achievements were also discussed ways to export medicine from Palestine to Sri Lanka.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Palestine Fawzan Anver also suggested to the delegation to explore possibilities to import medicine from the factory to Sri Lanka. It was also discussed regarding the establishment of a branch of the medicine factory in Sri Lanka.
