Sri Lanka Rotary signs Rs. 300 m deal with India

Rotary Sri Lanka is taking a lead to bolster bilateral ties by signing an Indo-Lanka partnership agreement which is worth over Rs. 300 million covering 60 clubs across the country. The areas covered in the partnership include economic development, sharing of services, best practice learning curve development, sports, peace and reconciliation for the year 2014-15. Rotary India 3230 Governor Isak Nazer and Sri Lankan Rotary Governor Gowri Rajan exchange the historic agreement signed at a ceremony in Water’s Edge attended by over four hundred dignitaries from Sri Lanka and India The Rotary Sri Lanka Governor Gowri Rajan said: “We must make this year’s agreement to cross a half a billion rupees which can be a hallmark achievement on international relations in the world of rotary between Sri Lanka and India.” The District Governor for India 3230 Isak Nazer commented that this was historic agreement that brings in the spirit of partnership between the two countries based on the strong agreement that has been signed by our two country leaders a decade ago. The Chief Guest at the landmark event the International Director from Rotary International P.T. Prabhakar who is based in United States said: “In the last six years the Rotary International President has been from Asia, which indicates the power of our part of the world and now we must set the stage for Rotary globally, in international relations.” Rotary organisation is the only service organisation that has a permanent seat in the United Nations which is supported globally by the Bill and Melinda foundation. The Indo-Lanka Rotary partnership comes as the two countries have celebrated a decade long Indo- Lanka Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the bilateral trade increasing to almost $ 4 billion. The two countries are in discussion to move forward with a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement covering services and investments as well.
