Sri Lanka Islamic Society calls for peace and reconciliation

The Sri Lanka Islamic Society, in its annual Independence Day wish, urged Sri Lankans to cast aside past differences and cooperate with President Maithripala Sirisena and the new Government. The following is their full statement: The President Mohammad Ruzaik Farook and members of the Sri Lanka Islamic Society wish to convey their sincere greetings to the President and the Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena, His Excellency Ranil Wickremesinghe and people of Sri Lanka on the 67th independence celebrations. The Sri Lanka Islamic Society on this day joins the whole nation in saluting all our national heroes. We appeal to all Sri Lankans to forget the past and all the differences of cast, race, religion, creed and politics and extend their fullest cooperation to the President and the Government to build a prosperous and united Sri Lanka. On this day we appeal to the Muslim community to pray Almighty Allah to restore much needed peace, happiness and understanding among our Sri Lankan brothers and sisters and usher in peace and harmony among all communities.
