Ambassador Admiral (Rtd.) Wasantha Karannagoda this week handed over a donation of 1 million USD from the Government of Sri Lanka to Tadateru Konoe, President of Japan Red Cross Society at the Japan Red Cross Society Headquarters in Tokyo. The donation will be used for the welfare of those affected by the recent tsunami and earthquake in Japan.
In addition, the Government of Sri Lanka has already dispatched a consignment of three million tea bags to be distributed among the people affected by the tsunami and earthquake in Japan. The Government is also making arrangements to send a Sri Lankan military contingent who are ready to assist in relief work in the aftermath of the disaster.
