Sri Lanka and China yesterday signed an agreement on economic and technical cooperation between the two countries.
Secretary to Finance Ministry Dr. P.B. Jayasundera signed the agreement on behalf of Sri Lanka while China’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka Yang Xiuping signed for her country.
Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunge, and the members of the Chinese delegation were present.
Meanwhile a special envoy of Chinese President Hu Jintao and Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee Sang Guowei, called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday at the President’s House.
Special Envoy Guowei is in Sri Lanka to attend President Rajapaksa’s inauguration on Friday for his second term and the launching ceremony of the Hambantota Port built by China Harbour Engineering Company.
