President Maithripala Sirisena and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina on Saturday held bilateral discussions at the Hilton Nagoya Hotel in Japan and during the meeting, both leaders agreed to further strengthen the trade relations between the two countries.
The two countries came into an agreement to maintain the export and import of garments from both countries under a stable pricing method.
They also discussed strengthening of cooperation in investments between the two countries.
During the meeting, attention has been drawn to the agreement signed with Bangladesh to purchase high quality drugs, by the President then as the Minister of Health. Further discussions were held regarding the implementation of a more favourable system to exchange drugs under concessionary prices.
Both leaders drew their attention to increasing Mihin Lanka flight frequencies between the two countries.
The President extended his best wishes to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for receiving the highest environmental accolade “Champions of the Earth” award of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The President further said that as a citizen who loves the environment he is very pleased about the Prime Minister receiving the award.
Accepting the invitation extended by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to visit Bangladesh, the President pledged to visit to Bangladesh in December this year.
