Special team to monitor elections in the north

The Elections Secretariat has planned to dispatch a team of special delegates to visit the districts of the Northern Province to monitor the situation there ahead of the local government elections.

The Elections Secretariat says that a Deputy Elections Commissioner and two senior officials are in the delegation. They are to monitor the security situation and the organising of the elections by the Elections Department officials.

The delegation will visit Mullaitivu District on 27 June, Jaffna District on 28 June and Kilinochchi District on 29 June.  They are to hold discussions with the District Returning Officers, Assistant Elections Commissioners, Senior Polling Officers, senior police officials, and the military.
