Special P’ment sessions to consider civil society reps to CC

Parliament will hold special sessions on 3 and 4 June to approve civil society representatives for the proposed Constitutional Council.

Parliament will consider three members from civil society. According to the recently passed 19th Amendment to the Constitution, the Constitutional Council will compromise seven members from Parliament and another three from civil society.

So far the Constitutional Council nominees include Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva, Patali Champika Ranawaka, John Seniviratne, Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, R. Sampanthan, Radhika Kumaraswamy, A.W.Z. Salam and A.T Ariyaratne.
