A top level investigation has been ordered by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to examine the alleged use of obscene words by Minister of Digital Infrastructure Harin Fernando recently in Parliament.

Even though the words were expunged from the Hanzard, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya making note of a point of order raised by Joint Opposition MP Dinesh Gunawardana informed the House of the investigation he ordered.

However, bringing notice of the possible violation of the Standing Orders, MP Gunawardana said: “Minister Fernando insulted MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage using obscene words. It is a behaviour we cannot accept at any level in Parliament. His use of obscene words could be observed checking the CCTV footage.”

MP Gunawardena further proposing the Speaker to take action against Minister Fernando said: “Recently even the New Zealand Prime Minister was ordered out of the chamber by the Speaker when he did not comply with instructions from the Chair.”
