THE Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena said yesterday that his Ministry has decided to prepare and implement a nursing constitution to provide solutions for the problems of the nurses.

The Minister’s statement came as the People’s Liberation Front (JVP) affiliated trade union launched a token strike despite failing to disrupt normalcy in many of the hospitals island wide. Other major trade unions of the nurses did not support the JVP union’s action.

Minister Maithripala Sirisena told the media that he had held discussions with the nursing trade unions during the past few days and that the trade unions had requested that the nursing constitution be implemented with immediate effect.
