“We are facing a huge crisis these days. We all hold the responsibility to protect our future generation. So a social transformation is needed in maintaining proper method of disposing garbage. Instead of pointing fingers at each other, we should take immediate steps to solve this issue. This concerns the future of our own children. As they are given with the food, clothes and education, it is our prime duty to maintain a good environment for them to live.”
Addressing the gathering at the divisional committee meeting held at Dehiwala Divisional Secretariat office Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faiszer Musthapha said, “I got to know that there are lot of waste collected in schools in this area. Such environmental conditions create favourable conditions for mosquitoes to breed. We should take immediate steps to change this situation.
The progress of the development activities in Dehiwala, Mt. Lavinia administrative area is reviewed at this meeting. It was decided that proper garbage recycling programs should be initiated in the area at hotels which have more than 20 rooms and servants more than 50. Before initiating such recycling programs plans should be submitted to the relevant officers. It was discussed about the legal conditions which should be implemented when submitting housing plans for approval, they should mark a place to keep a compost bin in order to get the approval.
