The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) plans to take disciplinary action against parliamentarians who attended the Joint Opposition’s ‘Jana Satana’ rally on Thursday, sources said.
More than 40 SLFP MPs were seen at the meeting despite the party’s Central Committee (CC) having banned their participation.
Sources further said the CC expects to record excuses from each MP before determining whether or not disciplinary action should be taken.
Last week, SLFP General Secretary Minister Duminda Dissanayake told the media the CC will “not think twice” to eliminate MPs who violated the disciplinary procedures of the party, if required.
The Joint Opposition on Thursday announced that 46 MPs had attended the rally as it predicted and said 36 out of it had been Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) MPs including former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Dullas Alahapperuma, Kumara Welgama, Bandula Gunawardena, GaminiLokuge, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Mahindananda Aluthgamamage, Namal Rajapaksa and Pavithra Wanniarachchi.
