The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of police yesterday filed charge sheets against six people accused of the murder of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian Nadarajah Raviraj.
The CID filed charges before the Colombo Additional Magistrate Nirosha Fernando under the instructions of the Attorney General.
The CID had arrested three former Navy personnel including two officers in connection with the MP’s murder. The other suspects include two members of the LTTE Karuna Faction and a police officer.
The parliamentarian was shot dead by gunmen riding a motorbike in Colombo on 10 November 2006. His bodyguard, Police Constable Lakshman Lokuwella attached to the Jaffna Police Station, was also killed in the shooting.
The CID has informed court that five other suspects arrested in connection with the murder could be released and is awaiting for Attorney General’s instructions.
