KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari arrived home on Tuesday evening after completing the four-day official visit to Sri Lanka.
She had left for Sri Lanka at the invitation of her Sri Lankan counterpart Maithripala Sirisena on 12 May.
During a press meet organised at the VVIP lounge of Tribhuvan International Airport upon the arrival of the President, Minister for General Administration Keshav Kumar Budhathoki, who was one of the members of the entourage, said that President Bhandari’s visit to Sri Lanka helped to strengthen the bilateral relations between two countries.
President Bhandari, during the visit, extended an invitation to the Sri Lankan President Sirisena for Nepal visit. The Sri Lankan officials said that the Sri Lankan President was likely to visit Nepal this year on the occasion of 60 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
It has been learned that Sri Lankan President Sirisena is likely to visit Nepal coming September.
Upon her arrival, President Bhandari was welcomed by Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Speaker Onsari Gharti, among ministers and high-ranking government officials at TIA.
On the occasion, a contingent of Nepal Army accorded a 21-gun salute in honour of the President.
President Bhandari attended the closing session of the UN Vesak Day as the Chief Guest marked by Sri Lanka on the occasion of the Buddha Jayanti. (Source: thehimalayantimes.com)
