A top policeman who was arrested yesterday for assisting a suspect in the case over the murder of schoolgirl Sivaloganathan Vithya to flee was ordered to be remanded.
The Kayts Acting Magistrate ordered Senior DIG Lalith Jayasinghe, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), to be remanded till 25 July. Vithya was abducted and raped in 2015 before she was killed.
The incident had sparked an outrage in Jaffna with violent protests held by students and the public. (Colombo Gazette)
