Secretary Defence holds discussion on Victory Day Celebrations

Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa held discussions on the preparation of 5th Victory Day celebrations with the relevant authorities at the Sri Lanka Army 3rd Gemunu Watch camp in Matara on Thursday.
The 5th Victory Day celebrations are to be held in the southern coastal city of Matara on 18th May.
During the discussion infrastructure development associated with the Urban Development was also widely discussed. Meanwhile, Mr. Rajapaksa visited and inspected the location earmarked for the parade during the national ceremony.
Sri Lanka’s armed forces celebrate their victory over the ruthless LTTE since 18th May 2009, the day when the LTTE’s defeat was officially announced. The Victory Day brings the whole nation together to celebrate the victory over separatist terrorism which had engulfed the lives of all Sri Lankans in misery for three long decades.
During the parade Tri forces, Police, CSD and Coast Guard personnel will march in their units’ along with differently-able soldiers. Simultaneously the Fighter Aircraft and Helicopters will fly over the parade while airborne units’ displaying their sky jumps. In the meantime, Navy Gun Ships and Attacking craft will also passes along the sea.
The main ceremony will be held under the patronage of His Excellency the President and Commander in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Government Ministers, Parliamentarians, Chief of Defence Staff, Tri forces commanders, IGP, Director Generals of Civil Security Department and Coast Guard, Regional state officials and senior military officers were present during the discussion.
