The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has demanded a probe into Sunday’s drowning death of a Saudi diplomat in a swimming pool of an apartment complex in Colombo.
The diplomat at the Saudi Embassy in Sri Lanka, 32-year-old Hussein Al-Heej, who was an accountant at the Embassy for two-and-a-half years, was found unresponsive in the pool by his four-year-old son.
The diplomat was rushed to a private hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Sri Lanka Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana told media that the diplomat was believed to have suffered a heart attack and fallen into the swimming pool of the apartment complex at Adamaly Place in Bambalapitiya.
However, Saudi Ambassador to Sri Lanka Abdulaziz Abdul Rahman Al-Jammaz has called for a full-scale investigation into Al-Heej’s death, Arab News reported.
Al-Heej was survived by two children, Faisal, four, and Aina, six months, and his wife. His body will be flown to Jeddah on Tuesday. (colombopage)
