The Colombo High Court yesterday acquitted former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka and Senaka Haripriya de Silva of the charges of harbouring Army deserters.
This decision was taken by the High Court Judge Devika Tennakon de Livera as the prosecution failed to prove the case without reasonable doubt.
Gen. Fonseka was accused by the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) of recruiting Army deserters and paying them salaries during the run-up to the 2010 presidential election.
