President Maithripala Sirisena says he will make the Samurdhi Movement - which the Government says has become an unsatisfactory state institution due to the disappointment of its employees caused by the bad management of the former Government - an efficient and effective institution.
He made these remarks at a special meeting on professional issues of the Samurdhi managers, held earlier this week at the Presidential Secretariat.
The discussion, in which all related parties took part, focused on the issues faced by the Samurdhi managers with proper solutions being formulated.
President Sirisena directed the officials to take quick action in this regard. He also enquired about the measures taken to solve these problems.
They also discussed the current situation of the Divi Neguma Development Department and the issues that had arisen there.
Minister of Social Empowerment and Welfare S. B. Dissanayake and Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake also participated in the discussion.
